newtonOn Christmas Day, 1642, the world received the gift of science for Christmas when a man was born who would not only make groundbreaking scientific discoveries in mathematics and physics, but who also laid down the laws for the Scientific Method that transformed every science, and so we celebrate


His hometown was a mouthful of an English town called Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, Lincolnshire.

Raised by his grandmother, who tried to make a farmer of him after his widowed mother remarried to a Reverend when he was 3 years old, Newton was the top-ranked student in his rural community and wound up getting an appointment at Trinity College for a work-study program.

Not yet a full-fledged scholar, he didn’t exactly set off any fireworks during his scholastic career. Those would come later, after getting bopped on the head by an apple opened the floodgates of genius in Isaac Newton. He is most famous for advancing his Theory of Gravity, but was also a brilliant mathematician who revolutionized  mathematics, and was a physicist unmatched until Einstein, who drew heavily upon his groundbreaking work in gravity and optics.

Not only was he establishing Scientific Method for the ages and advancing Science by giant steps, he was also appointed to run the Royal Mint in 1696, taking charge of England’s Great Recoining and remaining Master of The Mint for the last 30 years of his life.

His later years were marked by eccentric behavior later attributed to mercury poisoning as the result of handling that poisonous element during laboratory experiments, a danger his own scientific methods would later identify and eliminate.
