Finally, a day worth fighting for! It’s Mohandas K. Gandhi’s 153rd birthday, and all over the world, people are not kicking ass and taking names on
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF NONVIOLENCE!
Any idiot can get violent and, as a quick peek at the bloody mess we politely call “history” tells us, they usually do, but it takes real courage to fight without violence, engaging injustice armed only with character, defying brutality with peace.
We can thank Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King for teaching us how to win wars without harming our foes, and set people free without imprisoning their former captors.
These pioneers of nonviolence followed another way, showing us that anger and violence are simply fear and ignorance expressed.
They knew that meeting violence with violence is an endless and self-perpetuating mirror image, and that bondage of any man enslaves all men. These two peaceful warriors won their battles and changed the world, and the bullets that took both their lives could not take away their ideas, or the human dignity that was their legacy.
