We’re all aware of them, and frankly, they freak some of us out, especially those of the slimy, scaly and limbless variety whose name need not be invoked. Be that as it may, we’ll just have to suck it up and celebrate
NATIONAL REPTILE AWARENESS DAY!
Notice it says “Awareness,” and not “Appreciation” or “Reptile Love Day?” Awareness is all reptiles get, and if you live in crocodile country, hyper awareness.
Oddly enough, some reptiles are popular pets; your turtles, iguanas and colorful little lizards and, in extreme cases, pet snakes! (Okay, it has been invoked!) We’re sure reptiles are very interesting and all that, and a wonderful part of science and nature, but most of us are glad that it’s someone else on the ball with all the reptile studying and handling, and not us.
Did I mention that they freak some of us out? Anyway, here’s to being aware of our reptilian friends before they’re aware of us.
