NATIONAL PIZZA DAY!

We know it, we love it, we inhale it to the tune of 350 slices per second.

Considered a lowly peasant food by Italians in the 1800s, pizza (“pie” in Italian) is now among the most popular foods on earth.

When the going got impossible in Italy in the 19th Century, guess who booked out of there by the millions? Those same “lowly peasants,” who brought their language, culture and food to America, to our everlasting benefit.

There is no tastier food than pizza, and no bad time to eat it.

What’s yours? There’s round, square, thin crust or individual pies, standard issue mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce, or topped with sausage, peppers, mushrooms, pepperoni, anchovies, onions, or all of the above. Pizza is there for you, always. A special shout out to New York City, where pizza was first popularized and perfected. Have a slice or 3 today.

•Suggested Activities: Folding, biting.
