You know them, you love them, sometimes you want to fling them out the window, but you can’t do without them. You’re using one right now on
NATIONAL PERSONAL COMPUTER DAY!
Before this date in 1981, a personal computer was an abacus, and the only ones with websites had 8 legs and ate bugs.
Then IBM introduced the 5150 Personal Computer and the world began changing more rapidly than ever. Before you could say “boy billionaire,” we’re all hooked up like Captain Kirk with a kitten fetish and all of a sudden it’s The Information Age, shoving aside the Space Age like an elderly Walmart shopper on Black Friday.
Today, our cell phones and tablets are better computers than the 5150 PC, and even better than the giant computers used to send a guy to the moon in 1969.
Odds are we own two or more personal computers, able to do all sorts of amazing things we’ll never know about.
Who cares what some of those other applications do? All we want are music, videos, e-mail, wacky cat pictures, Google and having our say, dammit! End of list. It’s always a good day for dancing L.E.D. screens and blank stares while we endure another week at the grindstone. Log in!
