Mint-Julep-Culinary-Dropout-588While this day falls regrettably past Kentucky Derby Day, when Epsom Downs racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky serves 120,000 of them, it does serve as a joyful harbinger of Summer for more than a few bourbon enthusiasts,

NATIONAL MINT JULEP DAY!

A Southern delicacy of the strong spirits variety, the Mint Julep is a simple mix of spearmint leaf, sugar, water and your bourbon of choice, served over ice.

Like any other whiskey drink with a long history, it has its origins claiming to be miracle cure for one imaginary condition or another, like vapors or indisposition, as good an excuse as any for getting hammered in polite company.

For a relaxed Summertime braincation, the Mint Julep is as good as it gets for bourbon drinkers. Kick back, y’all.

•Suggested Activities: Listening to the sound of the whiskey cracking the ice cubes.
