You sleep when everyone else is up and at ’em, and come alive after dark, when the shadows rule, on
NATIONAL NIGHT SHIFT DAY!
The Graveyard Shift, they call it, the Midnight to Eight, with ‘lunchtime’ at about 4AM.
Today we salute those of the night shift, our nocturnal brothers and sisters who keep the engine running while the rest of us sleep.
You know who you are, the nurses, the bakers, first responders, power plant operators, truckers, cabbies, maintenance workers, transportation people, factory workers, security personnel and the cooks and waitresses at the all night diners that feed the people of the night.
You go home when the rest of the world is rising, and sleep though the racket the rest of us make doing whatever it is we do all day, secure in the knowledge that the night shift took care of business and the world can turn for one more day.
*Suggested Activities: Brewing a pot of Joe and tuning in to the all night talk radio station.
