Does the name Rumpelstiltskin mean anything to you?
How about Rip Van Winkle, Mother Goose, Aesop or the Brothers Grimm,?Do they ring a tinkerbell?
Fairy Tales were sometimes pretty gruesome, if you remember what happened to the Boy Who Cried Wolf. Wolf Alpo is what, just like Little Red Riding Hood’s granny and 2 out of 3 Little Pigs.
It isn’t all Sleeping Beauty and The Princess and the Pea with Fairy Tales. Greedy people get eaten by dragons, bears and wolves on a regular basis, and even the heros and heroines suffer some horrible ordeal or another before the Happily Ever After part.
Like watching people getting eaten by wolves, for instance, there’s lots of that.
There’s also lots of magic, but the people with magic powers are capricious and moody (Rumpelstiltskin was a prick), as likely to kill you as help you out, with the exception of Fairy Godmothers, who do help, but expect way too much virtue in return.
There’s lots of cool stuff in Fairy Tales too, like flying carpets, giant beanstalks, wizards, magic pumpkins, Seven Dwarves, easily-fooled monsters, Leprechauns, talking animals, dragons, puppets and trees, with no shortage of gorgeous damsels in distress. What’s not to love?
