Consider what a dreary world this would be without birds, the creatures that most inspire us.
Could we fly without their guidance? Would it even occur to us?
What would John James Audubon, Colonel Sanders or The Birdman of Alcatraz have done with their lives without birds?
From hummingbirds to hawks, bluejays to condors to ostriches and emus, scientists tell us that birds are the direct descendants of dinosaurs, and that’s wonderful to know, science-wise.
But to most human eyes and hearts, birds are the things that sunlight and wind and colors and songs are made of, able to fly as high and far as our imaginations, singing with joy the whole time.
