This comes at a good time for much of the United States, currently buried in a frosty coating of The Most Wonderful Time of The Year on
NATIONAL GO FOR A SLEIGH RIDE DAY!
Too bad there’s so few horse-drawn sleighs around on days like today, knee deep in Winter Wonderland, Jack Frost stepping on your toes.
They were once a popular winter attraction in Coney Island (see picture), as well as a transportation staple of every rural community in a cold climate.
Closest we come these days are our Flexible Flyer sleds, their design unchanged (no brakes) since the days we risked our own necks on every rocky slope on even the thinnest of snowfalls.
We’re the horses now, pulling the peewees around, shoving them down little hills and plucking them out of snowdrifts every so often, until everyone’s faces are all red and it’s time to go inside for some hot cocoa.
There’s worse ways to pass a Winter day.
