NATIONAL DOG DAY!

This is the date when dogs and man became besties; August the 26th, 15,000 years ago. Either that, or it’s the anniversary of the first of about two hundred times that Lassie saved the life of accident-prone Little Timmy.

But no matter, because as far as dogs are concerned, every day is Dog Day (and every color is sort of beige, but that’s a whole other story), and you’re the one they want to spend it with. Who else misses you like a long lost child when you’ve been gone for two hours?

Dogs and people are an old story, older than civilization, and a much better experience. Dogs have been our partners since we lived in caves and dodged Saber Tooth Tigers and Wooly Mammoths together. Before dogs, we were more gatherers than hunters, potential meals for bears the size of a Buick.

Our dogs’ sharp eyes, ears and noses, and even sharper claws and fangs, kept us safe from these giant Stone Age menaces long enough for us to build towns with sturdy walls, and the next thing you know we’re landing a guy on the moon. Thanks, Fido!
