TODAY’S NATIONAL DAY, 12/8/20 – CIVIL AVIATION DAY!

learn_fly It always better when aviation is civil, so let’s have a warm reception for

NATIONAL CIVIL AVIATION DAY!

Civil Aviation covers everything from jumbo jets to crop dusters, traffic choppers, and everything in between that is airborne but not military, but today we celebrate the little guy, the ones piloting the tiny Pipers, Cessnas and Beechcraft for fun and profit, taking off and landing from 20,000 US airports.

There are more than 215,000 small planes and jets in the USA, piloted by both amateur flying enthusiasts and professional pilots. You know, the small planes that are used to control the rock star population, smuggle contraband and provide amusing newspaper pictures when they crash into strip malls, highways and front lawns (and no one was hurt!).

We don’t know where drones will fit in to our skies yet, but the feeling is that drones will require their own National Drone Day once they replace the screaming helicopter traffic reporters and deliver pizzas to your front door. The skies are thick with flying machines and getting thicker. The Blue Yonder is not only wild, it’s crowded.
