TODAY’S NATIONAL DAY, 2/5/19 – CHINESE NEW YEAR!

You can stop writing Year of The Earth Dog on your checks now, it’s time for

THE YEAR OF THE EARTH PIG!

The Pig is the 12th and last member of the Chinese Zodiac, coming last only because there was a race conducted by the fabled Jade Emperor to determine which animals would be included in the Chinese calendar. The legend relates that the Pig stopped to eat along the way, got drowsy, then took a nap, and that is why the Pig is last in line, crossing the finish line long after the 11 animals before him. Everyone has to be somewhere, and pigs don’t seem to mind being anywhere as long as there’s stuff to eat.

How that story affects a Year of The Pig is anyone’s guess, but pigs are said to be sincere, pure, tolerant, honorable, natural, helpful, supportive, enduring. loving, sensible and appreciative of the finer things in life. Their drawbacks? Pigs may also be stubborn, materialistic, naive and gluttonous, so you just never know what kind of pig you’re dealing with until you get to know them better. Sort of like people, giving us no choice but to take Chinese folklore’s word for it and party like it’s 4717.
