TODAY’S NATIONAL DAY, 2/20/23 – PRESIDENTS DAY!

Mount_Rushmore_National_MemorialUsed to be that only 2 presidents got A Day, and they were our Top 2 –  Abraham Lincoln (February 12) and George Washington (February 22), and on their actual birthdays, which were were both national holidays no matter what day of the week on which they happened to fall, instead of what we have today,

PRESIDENTS DAY!

Instead of 2 holidays for 2 great men, we get one Generic Presidents Day for every president we’ve ever had, both great and otherwise.

This of course includes those who are not exactly Mount Rushmore material and clearly don’t deserve A Day. Anyone out there celebrating Millard Fillmore, James Polk, Zachary Taylor or Donald Trump? Who’s looking forward to the 3rd Monday in February to attend the Annual William Howard Taft Memorial Ball? The Grover Cleveland Parade, anyone?

Okay, they can’t all be Lincolns and Roosevelts, but we’ve had more than our share of President What’s-His-Names, and sharing Washington’s & Lincoln’s Days with these ciphers just doesn’t seem right. Losing a National Holiday in the bargain feels even worse, especially during February, a brutal month with very little going for it but its National Holidays. Celebrate this one hard, you’re presidenting for two!
